North Carolina Fuel Piping License

Requirements:
  • Anyone who engages in or offers to engage in the business of fuel piping must be licensed by the State of North Carolina
  • Applicants must submit a completed application to get pre-approval from the State Licensing Board to take the exam.
  • You are required to have a total of 2000 hours to sit for the fuel piping examination.  1000 hours may include service or maintenance work but you must have a minimum of 1000 hours hands-on work in installation, layout and design of fuel piping systems.
Services:

A fuel piping license is used by persons who do not possess a Class I or Class II plumbing or heating license, but desire  to engage in the contracting or installing of fuel piping extending from an approved fuel source at or near the premises.  The fuel piping is used or may be used partly or entirely to supply fuel to plumbing or heating systems or equipment or which, by its installation, may alter or affect the fuel supply to plumbing or heating or equipment with the meaning of G.S. 87-21(a).

Applications: An application can be obtained from the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors by calling (919) 875-3612.
Reciprocity: As of this time there are no agreements in place.
Continuing Education: Requires 6-hours a year.
Exam:
  • The North Carolina Fuel Piping exam is open book and has a fee of $100. 
  • 70% is required to pass.  
  • The examination is open  book.
