North Carolina Electrical Contractor License
| Requirements: |
- An Electrical Contractor license is required in North Carolina to engage, offer to engage, in the business of electrical contracting within the state of North Carolina.
- Applicants must submit a completed application to get pre-approval from the State Licensing Board to take the exam.

The three classifications of an electrical contractors license are Limited, Intermediate, and Unlimited.
Electrical Contracting is defined by the board as engaging or offering to engage in the business of installing, maintaining, altering, or repairing any electric work, wiring, devices, appliances or equipment.
- A Limited licensee shall be permitted to engage in a single electrical contracting project of a value not exceeding $25,000 and on which the equipment or installation in the contract is rated at not more than 600 volts. The annual license fee is $60. The applicant must have at least four years of experience. Two of the years must be primary experience whereas the remainder can be either primary or secondary.
- An Intermediate licensee shall be permitted to engage in a single electrical contracting project of a value not in excess of $75,000. The annual license fee is $100. The applicant must have at least six years of experience. Four of the years must be primary experience whereas the remainder can be either primary or secondary.
- An Unlimited licensee shall be permitted to engage in any electrical contracting project regardless of value. The annual license fee is $150. The applicant must have at least seven years of experience. Five of the years must be primary experience whereas the remainder can be either primary or secondary. The applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation.

Currently has reciprocity agreements in place with South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama |
| Continuing Education: |
Every electrical contractor shall be required to maintain continuing education hours throughout the license period (July 1st - June 30th). Individuals who have either a limited, intermediate, unlimited, or single family dwelling classifications shall maintain eight hours of approved continuing education. - Applicants must pass a trade exam and business exam with a minimum score of 75%.
- It is a 6-hour exam with 100 questions.
- The fee for the exam is $75.
