| Requirements: |
- Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the examination.
- Please note that the Georgia Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your contractor’s license.
- Applicants must have 2 years of proven experience working as or be employed by a residential contractor
- had significant responsibility for the successful performance and completion of at least 2 projects falling within the residential/basic category in the 2 years preceding the application
- Must be a minimum of 21 years old. Must complete and sign authorization for background check, including criminal history
- Applicants must have their own bank submit a credit reference form covering bank accounts used to operate a contracting business for the past two years OR submit to the Division a credit report detailing ones credit history that was run within the past 45 days.
- Must provide copy of an insurance certificate showing proof of workman's compensation insurance as required by Georgia law and liability insurance in a minimum amount of $300,000. If applicant is applying as an individual, such proof shall be on behalf of the individual. If applicant is applying as a qualifying agent, such proof shall relate to the business organization

| Services: |
A Residential Contractor is a person who performs contractor work or activity relative to detached one-family and two-family residences and one-family townhouses not over 3 stories in height. Also included are their accessory buildings and structures. There are no individual project size limitations.

To apply, contact the state of Georgia at 1-478-207-2440. Nonrefundable fee of $200.00 must be submitted with application. |
| Reciprocity: |
As of this time, there is no reciprocal licensing. |
| Continuing Education: |
As of this time, there is no continuing education for this license. |
| Exam: |
- The fee for the exam is $72.
- The Georgia Residential Basic Contractor Exam has 80 questions and a time limit of 200 minutes.
- A 70% is required to pass.
- Topics on the exam include sitework, footings, and foundation; concrete and concrete reinforcement; masonry; carpentry; roofing; associated trades; general code and construction knowledge; and OSHA safety.
- To schedule your exam, you must first obtain pre-approval from the board. Then, contact PSI at 1-800-733-9267.
